Hitting a round ball with a round bat is considered one of the toughest things to do in sports. At Titans Sports Academy, we strive to help players of all ages and talent levels achieve success at the plate through private lessons. Below is a list of common flaws many youth players struggle with.

  1. Striding/Stepping out with front foot

  2. Diving in to swing

  3. Incorrect weight shift. Hips moving forward before swing. Lunging.

  4. Arm Bar with bottom hand arm to load or initiate swing

  5. Hands casting to swing

  6. Bat barrel drag at contact

  7. Front side fly before contact and head not staying on ball

  8. Not using lower half/hips in the swing

  9. Poor balance before and during the swing.

Many coaches can easily see the flaws above but struggle to help players fix the issue. Simply stating “Don’t do this” or “Don’t do that” is not enough. Players need to know what to do and understand why these flaws effect their swings.

For example, a player may be coming around the ball leading to only hitting to the pull side and a lack of power. A coach may tell the player to stay inside the ball and stay up the middle. While this is what we want the player to do, it does not address the reason why this is happening in the swing. The real cause could be an arm bar while loading causing the player to cast their hands to start the swing.

Our instructors identify these flaws and work with the hitter to understand and correct it. From there we utilize drills and repetition to build muscle memory of the correct movements.
